Manteo (pronounced /ˈmæn(t)i.oʊ/), is located on Roanoke Island. The town was named after Chef who was of the Croatans tribe of American Indians. Manteo is home to one of the world’s greatest mysteries (Lost Colony) and the birthplace of the first American-born English child, Virginia Dare. Today you can visit many historical attractions like the Roanoke Island Festival Park, the Island Farm or the Elizabethan Gardens.
